Scholarships are sometimes the only chance for those underrepresented minority members who cannot afford higher education. Not only can they help build a career in the desired field, but also they provide a unique opportunity to get a college experience and meet people from absolutely different cultures.

APA Judith McManus Price Scholarship

This program is provided to women and underrepresented minority students enrolled in an approved Planning Accreditation Board planning program. Candidates must be citizens of the USA, be going to pursue careers as practicing planners in the public sector, and be able to show an actual financial need.

APSA Minority Fellowship Program

This program is a fellowship competition for members of underrepresented minorities applying to or in the early stages of doctoral programs in political science. Each candidate has to: be a racial minority; be a US citizen, US national, US permanent resident, or an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program; show an interest in teaching and have achievements in researching political science.

ASA Minority Fellowship Program

  • Amount: $18,000

This program supports the development and training of sociologists of color in all sub-areas and specialties in the discipline. An eligible applicant must be enrolled in/completed one full academic year in a sociology program and be pursuing a doctorate. The candidate has to be a citizen or non-citizen national of the US, a permanent US resident, or be eligible under DACA.

Augustana University Diversity Scholarships

These scholarships are designed for full-time students who representatives of a minority ethnic group and bring diversity to campus. Ethnicity and financial need are considered.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

This one is a grant program that gives students of limited financial means a chance to study or intern abroad, gaining skills necessary to our national security and economic competitiveness. It is open to US citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

Blacks at Microsoft Scholarship

  • Amount: $20,000

This one is a company-sponsored employee network designed to support the continued growth of black employees at Microsoft Corporation. Candidates have to be high-school seniors of African descent; have to plan to attend a four-year college or university; and must plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or select business programs. A minimum of 3.3 GPA and financial need is required.

BLM² Scholarship Foundation College Scholarship

  • Amount: $1,000

This program supports the idea that any motivated person in need must have a chance to further his or her education. The scholars are asked to give back in some capacity by community service, mentoring others, or through donations. An applicant must be a permanent Illinois resident; have a minimum of 3.0 GPA; be a graduating high school senior; be a minority student; be enrolled as a full-time student during the coming fall academic semester.

CBC Spouses Education Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the spouses of Congressional Black Caucus members in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships, which disproportionately affect people of color. This program is designed for academically talented and highly motivated African-American or Black students pursuing an associate, undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree. Candidates have to be US citizens or permanent residents; have a minimum of 2.5 GPA; be enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution; reside in a district represented by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

CBC Spouses Performing Arts Scholarships

This scholarship was designed to ensure that African-American or Black students pursuing a degree in the performing arts receive financial assistance. Candidates must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution and have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.

CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship

  • Application Deadline: 4/30/2021
  • Amount: $3,000

This program aims to provide financial assistance to African-American or Black students who are pursuing a degree in the visual arts. Chosen applicants will be constituents of a CBC member’s district. Candidates must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution and have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.

Charles Shelton Veterinarian Medicine/Technology Scholarship

  • Amount: $2,000

This program is created by the Charles Shelton Foundation, Inc., which is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide educational scholarships to African-American students pursuing a degree in veterinarian medicine or veterinarian technology. Scholarships are awarded to students who have shown an interest in and commitment to animal welfare. A candidate has to have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, be an African-American graduating high school senior, current college student, or returning college student. Additionally, applicants are asked to provide two professional references from Professors that speak directly to students’ experience in Veterinary Medicine or Technology. One letter should be from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professor.

Chips Quinn Scholars Program

  • Amount: Varies

This scholarship offers students hands-on training and mentoring by caring news veterans. The goal of this program is to provide training and support that will open doors to news and information careers and bring greater diversity to the newsrooms of the US. An applicant should be a college junior, senior, graduate student, or recent graduate with a major in journalism or career goals in journalism.
